Experience:
John’s experience spans more than 40 years in a variety of areas, from commercial litigation and administrative disputes through insolvency, corporate governance, general commercial, and property law.
He has been with King & Company for more than 30 years and practises principally in:
- providing advice to Council clients on local government?related issues, including governance, risk management and liability, procurements, rating and revenue, roads, resumptions, and less usual but no less emotive issues such constitutional and other statutory limitations;
- contract negotiation and preparation - including invitations to tender and associated contracts (e.g. refuse collection/management contracts, works contracts, wastewater supply/re-use contracts), infrastructure agreements, management agreements, joint ventures, mining-related agreements, loan agreements, development agreements;
- corporate and trust structures;
- commercial and local government leasing - including leases and related transactions concerning commercial complexes and local government?specific projects, and local government leases and permits for clubs and other community organizations;
- major property acquisitions, disposals and developments - including commercial office and retail complexes, and development of community titles and multiple dwelling complexes.
Less frequently, John undertakes litigation in assorted matters such as administrative disputes, contract disputes, estate and trust disputes, and recovery of money and land.
John holds a current practising certificate from the Queensland Law Society.
